I’ve been thinking for days about this next blog, and several ideas, verses, quotes and just words seem to say, “Oh, oh, pick me! Pick me!” but none of them feel 100% right. There are times in life when circumstances and emotions can change on a dime. It’s almost comical when I step away and look at how quickly my emotions can shift!! 🙂 The best “solution” to stabilizing myself is to sink my mind and heart into the Word of God. (And then give myself an attitude adjustment during my time of prayer!) It’s amazing what that dynamic combination can do!!
Lately, I’ve been reading from Psalms. The Bible, no matter how many times you read and reread it…you can go back and get new and exciting “truths” out of it…it’s one of the many, many things I love about the Bible. I’m blown away at how I can read the same scripture that I highlighted years ago…and I go back now and read it and it means something “completely different” (has deeper meaning) to me now!
There are a few chapters and verses in the Bible that I turn too when I’m finding myself “at the end of my rope” and they bring instant comfort or help me refocus on what the true purpose of my life is. The section of verses I’m going to post is one of those selections of scripture. I’m quoting from the New King James version…so if you prefer something different…go look it up!! 🙂
Psalm 37:3-5, 7-9 and 23-24. “3Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass…7Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret—it only causes harm. 9For evildoers shall be cut off; but those who wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the earth….23The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and He delights in his way. 24Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
The peace that floods my soul when I read this…it’s indescribable. It’s so easy for me, and I’m sure a lot of others, to force our ways, our wants, our desires and try and make stuff happen in our lives. I’m not saying it’s okay to just put our lives in cruise saying “Oh God, will guide me.” Nope…it’s our job to make sure we’re active and growing! Teaching ourselves how to be a better person and impact more lives. God works through our action. If we’re not moving…we’re not much use. So…as we go about our lives, seeking His face we are seeing His will for our lives unfolding. Our job…TRUST in the Lord, DELIGHT in the Lord, COMMIT to the Lord, REST in the Lord…WAIT PATIENTLY on the Lord. And my dear friends, those alone are enough to keep us busy for the rest of our lives!!! 🙂
When we’ve surrendered our lives and let go of our desires…we’re leaving everything in Christ’s hands. And I promise, the Hands that bore the sins of the world are the same Hands that are holding your heart, your desires and your dreams…He isn’t careless and He loves you and me more than anyone else can ever attempt to love. There are so many aspects of these verses that I could go on about but I don’t want this too long…I do tend to write longer vs. shorter! But seriously, check out these scriptures….what do you think? What does your heart do when you read words like “He shall give you the desires of your heart”!? I know mine…goes “Lord, all I have to do is trust and delight in You and You’ll give me the desires of my heart!? Really!?” That almost sounds too good to be true. Here’s the catch…He doesn’t promise us the desires of our hearts when we want them, when we think we need them…etc. etc. and so forth. We’re expected to trust and delight in Him no matter the time…and not be impatient and angry when He doesn’t answer immediately…that’s where the REST and WAIT part comes in…hehe!! The “hard” part. While we don’t understand everything, we have the unique ability to just rest in God’s all-knowing mind knowing He’s waiting on the perfect timing in our lives to bless us with our hearts desires. And we must wait on Him. He truly knows best…and we do not need to concern ourselves with pushing our timing.
A dear friend of mine, told me this last week “good things come to those that wait for them”. I told her “amen!” Such simple advice, that is so true. I encourage you…trust, delight, commit, rest and wait on God. It’s not easy, let me be the first to tell you it’s not easy…but it’s so worth it! And the end results of His are always better than whatever we may come up with in our own strength.
